Let’s talk about minis vs. full sessions, and why I only offer full sessions for families. Not because minis are bad – but because the kind of photos I believe in? The kind you want on your wall for years? They need space to breathe.
It happens every spring – your feed starts filling up with mini session announcements. Gorgeous setups, quick time slots, lower price points. And you might start wondering… Should I do a mini? Is that what we need right now?
I get it. Minis can look really appealing – especially when life is busy and your calendar feels like a game of Tetris. But if you’ve ever ended a mini session wishing you had more time, more variety, more you in the final gallery… you’re not alone.

What Are Mini Sessions?
Mini sessions are usually quick (think 10–15 minutes), back-to-back sessions offered on specific dates, often with a set location and fewer final images. They’re great for things like holiday cards or quick milestone updates.
But here’s the thing…
Most of the families I work with aren’t looking for just a holiday card photo.
They want images that feel real and warm and full of connection. They want their kids’ personalities to shine through. And most of all – they want the experience of the session to feel calm, un-rushed, and unique to them.
Why I Offer Full Sessions (And What That Really Means)
A full session gives us time.
Time for your kids to warm up.
Time for those in-between giggles and snuggles.
Time for a wardrobe shift, a snack break, or a toddler moment.
Time to breathe.
Minis vs. full sessions isn’t just about time on a clock – it’s about how it feels to be in front of the camera. A full session means I can gently guide you, give space when needed, and really capture what makes your family… yours.
We can explore a location you love, let your kids run a bit, and not stress if someone needs a minute to reset. Honestly, some of my favorite photos happen after someone says, “Okay, now they’re warming up!”
That’s where the magic is.
Real Talk: Is a Full Session Worth It?
I know a full session is an investment – not just financially, but emotionally and logistically too.
But here’s what I believe:
If you’re going to take the time to do family photos, let’s make it something beautiful and meaningful. Let’s create photos you’ll want to hang in your home, flip through in an album, or look back on in five years and say, “That was such a sweet season.”
Because time really, truly goes so fast.
And photos are one of the only ways we get to pause it for a second.
Still Wondering What’s Best?
If you’re not sure if a full session is the right fit for you, I’d love to chat. Really. I want this to feel easy, and I’m happy to help you figure out what would work best for your season of life.
And if you’re looking for a little more encouragement, this article on why family photos are so important really hits home. It’s a good reminder of why these moments matter.
