As a photographer, I’m constantly on the lookout for the best nature locations I can find in Colorado Springs for family photos. I’m excited to share with you some of my favorite spots for family photography in and around this beautiful city. Whether you’re a fellow photographer or looking for inspiration for your own family photoshoot, these locations are worth checking out!
What I’m looking for…
What I look for in a location is something that is easily accessible, not too busy and has a variety of backdrops. And of course great light. There are so many beautiful places around the Springs, but not all are ideal for photos.
1. Palmer Park
Palmer Park is my favorite location. It has beautiful open skies and lots of trees. It has an amazing view of Pikes Peak and city lights later in the day. With a mixture of green trees, open fields and the view of the mountain, you have lots of options for photos.
2. Ute Valley Park
Also one of my top favorites, Ute Valley Park is another great location with gorgeous mountain views. Explore the park to find lots of trees, white rocks and mountain views. Something to keep in mind- parking is limited in the small parking lot, but you can park down the street in a school parking lot and hike up.
3. Garden of the Gods
Anywhere you go in Garden of the Gods you’ll have a pretty backdrop- and in the right spots you can capture the red rocks and Pikes Peak right there in the background. This iconic location can be busier, so I don’t use this one as much but the views are gorgeous!
4. Blodgett Peak
I have shot some of my favorite sessions in the fall at this location. Unfortunately the big gorgeous field we were using has now had the trails blocked off. But even without that, it’s still a beautiful location!
6. Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site
This gorgeous location is in the Garden of the Gods park. With rustic buildings, open fields and gigantic trees you’ll have a variety of backdrops. And while you’re there it’s fun to walk around and look at all the animals 🙂 This location does charge a fee for photography- check out their website for the details.
If you have any favorite locations for family photos in Colorado Springs or have had an experience worth sharing at one of these locations, I’d love to hear about it in the comments. Happy shooting!
