I know that booking a family photo session can feel a little overwhelming—maybe you’re wondering how to get the kids to cooperate, worried about what to wear, or wondering how the photos will turn out. Don’t stress! In this post, I’ll walk you through exactly what to expect, from the moment you book to when you receive your final images. My goal is to make the process fun, easy, and stress-free, so you can focus on enjoying the experience and making memories with your family!
The Booking Process
When you inquire about a family photo session, I’ll send over a PDF full of information about your session, including pricing and helpful tips. You’ll also see my client closet options, which are available to you with certain packages.
Once you’ve decided to book, you’ll receive a link to my calendar where you can choose a date that works best for your family. You’ll sign a session contract and pay a retainer to hold your spot. Then, I’ll send a link to a questionnaire to learn more about your family and work out important details like which images are most important to you, your preferred location, and outfit ideas.
Pre-Session Prep
Before the big day, I’ll help you prepare to make sure everything goes smoothly. Need help with outfits? Just text me photos, and we’ll figure it out together! You’ll also receive a checklist with helpful tips like when to schedule haircuts and what to keep in mind on the day of your session.
The Day of the Session
On the day of your photoshoot, we’ll meet at the location and walk to the picture spot. Every session is a little different—depending on how the kids are feeling, we may start with the whole family or focus on the older kids while the younger ones settle in. Throughout the session, I’ll guide you through natural poses and candid moments, keeping things light and fun—especially for the little ones. I love incorporating games to keep kids engaged and happy, making sure we capture genuine smiles and interactions. A typical family session lasts about an hour to an hour and a half, but we’ll go at a pace that’s comfortable for you. If the kids need a break, that’s totally fine! Don’t worry about taking a pause- it’s all part of the process.
After Your Session
Once the session is done, I’ll carefully go through the photos, selecting and editing the best images that capture your family’s personality. My editing style focuses on enhancing the natural beauty of your photos without making them look overly processed. You can expect to receive your online gallery of images within two weeks. From there, you can review the photos, pick your favorites, and even order prints or albums directly from the gallery.
Delivery of Final Images
After you’ve made your selections, I’ll prepare your final digital images and any prints or products you’ve ordered. You’ll be able to download the number of digital images included in your package, and any additional products you order will be shipped directly to your door. I always follow up after delivery to make sure you’re happy with everything and to answer any final questions. And of course, I love staying connected- whether for future milestones or your next annual photoshoot, I’m here to capture those special moments whenever you’re ready!
