Family Photo Session Guide – What to Expect

Booking a family photo session shouldn’t feel stressful. If you’re feeling unsure about what to wear, how the kids will do, or what actually happens after you book – you’re not alone. That’s exactly why I’ve created a process that’s calm, simple, and designed to take the pressure off. Here’s a little walkthrough of how it all works from start to finish.

Step 1: Reserve Your Date

Booking is easy! I’ll send over a link to my calendar so you can choose a date that works for your family. Once you sign the contract and pay your session fee, you’re officially booked. I only take a limited number of sessions so I can give each family the care and attention they deserve.

Step 2: Planning Call & Styling Help

After your date is confirmed, we’ll schedule a quick planning call to chat through location ideas, must-have shots, and outfit help. I’ll create a custom style board for your family, so you can see how everything will look together before the big day. You can shop from the board or use it as inspiration for what you already have.

Want to borrow from my Client Closet? I’ll set up a time for you to try things on, and I’ll bring everything clean and steamed to your session.

Step 3: Enjoy Your Family Photo Session

On the day of your session, all you have to do is show up and enjoy time with your people. I’ll guide you through a mix of gentle posing and candid moments. We’ll play games, take breaks, and just follow the kids’ lead. Sessions last 1.5 to 2 hours and are designed to feel relaxed and fun.

Step 4: Ordering Appointment

About 4–5 weeks after your session, we’ll meet for your ordering appointment – in person at your home or my studio, or virtually if you’re out of town. You’ll get to watch a beautiful slideshow of your images and choose how you want to enjoy them. From digital files and framed prints to albums, I’ll help you create something meaningful for your home.

Step 5: Delivery Day

Once your order is placed, most products are ready within three weeks. I’ll follow up to make sure everything looks perfect, and I’m always here to help with future sessions or questions.

Photos are just the beginning—this is really about holding onto a season that passes way too fast. If you’re ready to get something on the calendar, click here to reach out. I’d love to help you hold onto this chapter for a little longer.

My loves 😍 I finally got my own family in front of the camera and I totally get why it’s so hard to make it happen. Life gets busy, kids grow up, and suddenly it’s been too long! Not to mention the agony of shopping for 7 people!! But it was 100% worth it. And I’m definitely hiring someone next time so I can be in more…

If you’ve been putting it off too… maybe this is your sign. ❤️ Your Colorado Springs Family Photographer

Look at all these humans we made from scratch (ok, we had a little help from the Man upstairs). We did good. You know how it goes - the photographer’s family is always the last to get photos. Finally have an updated pic for the wall!
